Son Thanh Tay commune was established under Decree No. 62/2005/ND-CP dated May 16, 2005 of the Prime Minister on the establishment of communes in Tuy Hoa and Song Cau districts and the division of Tuy Hoa district into 02 districts Dong Hoa and Tay Hoa. Clauses 1 and 3 of Article 1 of this Decree stipulate: Splitting Son Thanh commune of Tuy Hoa district into 02 communes Son Thanh Dong and Son Thanh Tay. Son Thanh Tay commune officially came into operation on July 7, 2005, is a mountainous commune in region II of Tay Hoa district. Natural area 9,810.65ha (inventory data 2015). Population 4,472 people (2014). The North borders Ba River, Phu Hoa district; The East borders Son Thanh Dong commune; The West borders Son Giang commune, Song Hinh district; The South borders Khanh Hoa province.
